Who will deliver me from myself?

INTRO — THE SILENCE OF AN INVISIBLE BATTLE
There are battles… that no one sees. No noise. No witnesses. No applause.
But inside… it’s a war. A strange war. A confusing war. An exhausting war. Because this time… the enemy isn’t on the outside. HE IS WITHIN YOU.
You wake up with good intentions. You want to do good. You want to walk uprightly. You want to honor God.
But something… resists.
You move forward… and you fall back.
You decide… and you give up.
You promise… and you fall again.
And one day, like the apostle Paul… you hear yourself say these troubling words: “I do not do the good I want… and I do the evil I do not want…” (Romans 7)
And then… everything stops. Because it’s no longer a theory. It’s you.
1. THE SHOCK: DISCOVERING THE REAL PROBLEM
For a long time, you thought your problem came from the outside. Circumstances. People. Temptations. But one day… God shows you the truth. The problem… runs deeper.
It’s not just what you do. It’s what lives inside you. Paul puts it bluntly: “It is no longer I who do it, but the sin that dwells within me.”
This verse is unsettling. Because it reveals something many refuse to accept:
Sin is not just an act.
It’s a power.
A presence.
An influence.
An active force… in the flesh.
It’s like an invisible force pushing you… even when you resist. You know what’s right. You want what’s good. But you can’t fully live it out. And it wears you out. Not physically. But inwardly.
Moral fatigue.
Spiritual fatigue.
The weariness of falling… again and again and again…..
2. THE PAIN: WHEN THE HEART LOVES GOD BUT STRUGGLES
The hardest part… isn’t sinning. The hardest part… is loving God… and sinning anyway.
Paul says: “I delight in God’s law, according to the inner man.” What does that mean?
Your heart loves God.
Your soul desires God.
Your spirit wants to obey.
But your body… doesn’t always follow.
And there, you find yourself in a painful contradiction:
You love God… but you struggle with sin.
You want holiness… but you experience weakness.
And this tension creates silent suffering. You smile in front of others… but inside… you’re crying.
You pray… but you feel unworthy.
You worship… but you feel inconsistent.
You serve… but you feel guilty.
And sometimes, a dangerous thought creeps in: “Is God fed up with me?”
3. THE CRY: “WOE IS ME!”
Then comes that moment. Not in a church. Not in front of a crowd. But alone… with God. A moment when you stop hiding. A moment when you stop pretending. A moment when you finally tell yourself the truth: “Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me?”
This isn’t a religious phrase. It’s a cry. A raw cry. A true cry. A cry without a mask. It’s the moment when you realize: I cannot save myself.
And that’s where many stop.
Some fall into guilt.
Others into condemnation.
Others give up.
But Paul… doesn’t stop there.
4. THE REVELATION: A DOOR OPENS
In the midst of this cry… a light appears. Not a human solution. Not a method. Not a discipline: A PERSON.
“Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
Everything changes here. Because the answer… isn’t “try harder.” The answer… is JESUS.
5. JESUS: NOT JUST A SAVIOR… BUT THE ONLY WAY
Jesus doesn’t say, “I’ll help you save yourself.” No. He says: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
Not a way. Not an option: THE WAY.
Why?
Because He alone…
has never sinned
has never fallen
has never been overcome
Hebrews 4:15 “He was tempted just as we are… yet He did not sin.”
Even Satan… found nothing in Him:
Nothing to accuse.
Nothing to exploit.
Nothing to destroy.
And that’s why… He can save you.
6. THE CROSS: WHERE EVERYTHING CHANGES
Colossians says: “He has wiped out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us… He has nailed it to the cross.”
Picture this: Your sins. Your failures. Your struggles. Your setbacks—NAILED.
And not just forgiven: DESTROYED in their power.
“He stripped the rulers…”
Satan has lost his right.
Sin has lost its authority.
The cross is not a decoration: IT IS A VICTORY.
7. PSALM 51: THE WAY BACK
But be careful… Deliverance begins with something: HUMILITY.
David, after his fall, doesn’t make excuses. He doesn’t downplay it. He doesn’t justify himself.
He says: “O God, create in me a pure heart…”
It’s not: “Improve me.”
It’s: “Recreate me.”
And that… is powerful. Because God doesn’t just fix things: HE TRANSFORMS.
8. FREEDOM: A NEW REALITY
Romans 8 begins this way: “There is therefore now no condemnation…” ” None. Not partial. Not conditional: NONE.
Why? Because:
You are no longer defined by your struggle
You are defined by Christ
And even if the struggle continues…
You are no longer alone
You are no longer a slave
You are no longer condemned
CONCLUSION — THE DECISIVE MOMENT
So now… Stop for a moment. Not to think: TO RESPOND.
Maybe this message… is for you.
Maybe this struggle… you know it all too well.
So do as Paul did. Do as David did. Don’t run away: CRY OUT.
Simply say: “Lord… I can’t save myself. Deliver me from myself. Change my heart. I’m coming to You.”
And listen closely to this…: HE NEVER REJECTS A BROKEN HEART.
FINAL WORDS
You’re not alone in this battle. You’re not doomed to stay this way.
There is a way out.
There is a solution.
There is a Savior.
And His name… IS JESUS.
